Waterford Hospice.

Waterford Hospice Movement is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1988 to provide "Palliative Care" services for patients with life threatening illnesses in Waterford City, County and in South Kilkenny, covering a population of 120,000 people. Waterford Hospice is registered as a limited company and has charitable status.

It currently costs Waterford Hospice approximately €588,000 annually to provide its services. Most of this amount (63%) has to be raised through donations, local fundraising (Sunflower Day, coffee mornings etc) and funds raised on our behalf by individuals. The Health Service Executive (HSE) provides approximately 37% of the remaining funding required at present.

The staff are supported by a voluntary Board of Directors and a voluntary steering committee.

Our care team includes a Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Complementary Therapists. This dedicated team is supported by our Administration Manager, based in our office at Waterford Regional Hospital. 'Palliative care' means 'to alleviate, without curing'; the terms 'Hospice' care and 'Palliative care' are often used interchangeably.

All care is provided free of charge, irrespective of income.
